ONEKAMA -- A Northern Michigan community has been awarded a grant to improve it's parks and add value to the area.
Lang Park, Village Park, and the Watershed in Onekama will receive a $34,000 upgrade. The goal is to provide handicap accessible paths and to add to features like an amphitheater, paths, and possible a skating rink.
An Ann Arbor consultant is drawing up designs right now. Residents say improvements, especially to the village park are much needed.
Ann Kasson says, "If they're going to put more money into them, gosh, people will be using them even more. That's awesome."
Nature has played a roll on making Lang Park on Lake Michigan difficult to access.
Portage Lake Watershed Council Chair, Kathy Ervin says, "Over the years with shifting sands its become less easy for people who are handicap to get to water"
Organizers will reveal the design on July 28th at the Farr Center.
